Apparently, with talk of the director jumping aboard a new project, one of Paul Weitz’s previously hyped pieces has also gotten a bit of a revival.

Coming days after it was revealed the director would be helming an adaptation of the novel Admissions (starring Tina Fey), The Wrap is now reporting that Weitz still has a plan to get his long talked about film, ANOTHER BULLSHIT NIGHT IN SUCK CITY off the ground. However, it won’t be starring Casey Affleck, who has been attached to it since it was first announced in 2009.

The outlet is reporting that Paul Dano has now joined the film, which also stars Robert De Niro.

SUCK CITY has also shifted studios, leaving Fox 2000 and headed over to Focus Features, meaning that it apparently has quite the bit of steam behind it. The film will be based off of the memoir of the same name from Nick Flynn which follows a 20-something who works at homeless shelters and meets his estranged father, played by De Niro.

Personally, this brings up mixed emotions. I love this premise and both De Niro and Dano, but with the same man that was behind LITTLE FOCKERS also behind this, it does not bode well for the film. That said, Weitz has directed some rather solid fair (I’m looking at you ABOUT A BOY), so not all may be lost here. However, his track record has been relatively weak as of late, so this is very much a wait and see project.

This is an excellent book. Dano is perfect for the role!
