PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF came out last year and was mildly successful, but it certainly didn’t make the kind of splash that a lot of people were expecting. Then came the lack of any news about a sequel, even though there are currently five books in the Young Adult series the first film was based on, and a seeming franchise to be made.

Now that news is finally coming out, and it looks like a sequel is happening after all.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski have been hired to pen a script for the sequel and are hard at work at it currently. Supposedly the main cast, including Logan Lerman as Percy, are all expected to return for the sequel. Now they just need to find a director, as Chris Columbus will not be returning, then the ball will really be rolling.

I’m really excited to see what they can do with a sequel, maybe they’ll take it in a slightly different direction. Maybe go a little darker, a move that worked with the HARRY POTTER series. Either way, I’m interested to see what they do with this series.

Don’t forget to check out my interview with the cast about the first film!
