Peter Greenaway

Generally I don't get too excited about modern romantic comedies. Sure, when home alone, I've been known to watch them. But my general feelings are, if you've seen one, you've seen them all.

But the announcement of Peter Greenaway's upcoming stab at the genre has me terribly excited. See, I have a feeling Peter Greenaway shares my sentiments about the modern romantic comedy, and I am excited to see him flip it on its head. It was Greenaway after all, who announced in 2007 that "Cinema is brain dead." Perhaps he is just the man to revive the dying institution.

And from the brief synopsis of his upcoming film 4 STORMS AND 2 BABIES, this one will definitely be a shocker. The film centers on a woman who becomes pregnant after having a ménage à trois with two men.

This project seems to be a ways away, as Greenaway's GOLTZIUS AND THE PELICAN COMPANY (the second film of his Dutch Masters' series) is currently in pre-production. Greenaway plans to write and direct 4 STORMS AND 2 BABIES. The film will be shot in Amsterdam.

Producer Mike Downey says the tone of the film is similar to Greenaway's DROWNING BY NUMBERS, which some might call a romantic comedy. Saying the film's “premise is both simple and strong: Three people with different needs and beliefs all of whom are able to help the others on a journey of self discovery.”
