While his last film, SALT, may have ultimately been a relatively underwhelming piece of action cinema, Phillip Noyce is no less an attractive name when it comes to filmmaking, and apparently, he’s found himself a brand new directing gig.

Deadline has revealed that Noyce will helm Relativity Media’s upcoming film, HUNTER KILLER, based on the novel, Firing Point.

With a script penned by Jamie Moss, John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt, the film follows “an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president, who has been taken prisoner during a military coup, in an effort to stop a rogue Russian General from igniting World War III.”

This sounds like a perfect fit for Noyce, who’s made his bread and butter on action-thrillers like PATRIOT GAMES and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Personally, while I may not have been the warmest on the rather uninteresting mess that was SALT, this sounds like a perfect film for Noyce to get back on the right path with. The premise is interesting enough, and toss in some solid writers behind the script, and this is definitely a film to look out for.
