Pixar announces MONSTERS INC. 2 and BRAVE for 2012
Those boy geniuses over at Pixar have officially announced two films for 2012. The first being the sequel to 2001's MONSTERS INC., which is set to hit theaters November 16, 2012. The film will be the second Pixar property to get the sequel treatment behind TOY STORY, with TOY STORY 3 hitting theaters this summer on June 18. MONSTERS INC. writer/director Pete Docter, (who also helmed Pixar's latest hit UP for which he won an Oscar), will not return for the sequel leaving the closet door open to a new director.
The second film in Pixar's 2012 arsenal is the fairy tale BRAVE, formerly known as THE BEAR AND THE BOW, set to hit theaters June 15, 2012. Brenda Chapman, who has previously worked with Pixar on CARS and UP, will direct the film. Chapman is no stranger to animation, having directed Disney's THE PRINCE OF EGYPT for her first feature, along with Mouse House credits in the Art Department for THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER, and THE ROAD TO EL DORADO. Chapman also has writing credits for Disney on BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LION KING, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, and FANTASIA/2000.

BRAVE features the voice talents of Reese Witherspoon who stars as the “impetuous, tangle-haired Merida." Despite being a daughter of the king and queen, she "would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right. Director Brenda Chapman and the storytelling wizards of Pixar conjure humor, fantasy and excitement in this rich Highland tale.”
