As CARS 2 is set to blaze up the box office (despite almost unanimous panning from the critic crowd), Pixar is looking to the future, which frankly, looks far more promising than their soon-to-be-released sequel.

Thanks to the site DVDizzy (via Upcoming Pixar), we have the first poster for Pixar’s upcoming film BRAVE, and it’s as beautiful as a film like BRAVE would be assumed to be.

The poster is an absolutely stunning, painterly piece of promotional material that features our lead, Merida, and some arresting Scottish landscapes, with the film’s title tossed across the top. The one sheet is simply one of the best posters I’ve seen in quite some time.

The film is helmed by Mark Andrews (who took over for Brenda Chapman) and is set to open on June 22, 2012. BRAVE stars Kelly MacDonald, Billy Connelly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane, and follows the story of “the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus and Queen Elinor. An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman, and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida's quest -- and serving as comic relief -- are the kingdom's three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin, the surly Lord Macintosh, and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall.”
