GI Joe 2 directors

Today must be the day for sequel news. First, Avi Lerner drops the news that there will be a CONAN sequel and now we have some news to share about G.I. JOE 2. Paramount has been searching for a new helmer ever since Stephen Sommers dropped out of the project.

I know that this may throw all of my credibility right out the window, but I mildly enjoyed the first film. Granted, I did wait to watch it on DVD and did not get my hopes up so they never had the chance to get smashed. I subscribe to the philosophy that you get what you pay for. The studio had to know what they were paying for when they hired Sommers. Come on, he directed Brendan Fraser in two of the MUMMY films and yet decided to put him into a cameo in G.I. JOE.

Latino Review reports that Jaume Collet-Serra (HOUSE OF WAX, UNKNOWN), F Gary Gray (THE ITALIAN JOB, LAW ABIDING CITIZEN), and John Chu (STEP UP 3D) are in the hunt to direct the G.I. JOE sequel. These directors don't inspire a great deal of confidence for me in the film. I also think it makes no sense for Chu to even be in consideration.

Gray is the best director out of the uninspiring bunch. I am sure there are some other directors that would be a good fit for this film.

Who do you think should be on this list? What are your thoughts on the G.I. JOE sequel?
