Coming hot off the success of PRECIOUS, Oscar winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher will be making his directorial debut with a black-comedy and one hell of a cast.

According to Showbiz411, Fletcher will be directing VIOLET AND DAISY, a film that’s been described as THELMA AND LOUISE meets SUPERBAD.  The film will star Saoirse Ronan and Carey Mulligan, so Fletcher has definitely garnered some weight post Oscar win.

He will be writing a film called ATTICA for Doug Liman, but it appears as though VIOLET will be getting put onto celluloid first, and as his first feature, it sounds pretty intriguing.  I was a big fan of Fletcher’s script for PRECIOUS, a film that I wasn’t the biggest champion of, so while I’m a bit cautious, as it’s his first directorial project, I will be looking forward to his screenplay and to see what he can do behind the camera.  It’s not the most original of projects, but with a cast that includes Mulligan and Ronan, you really can’t go wrong.  At least not at this stage.
