Producer Dan Lin talks the potential of a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie
It's been back and forth. It's been up and down. The JUSTICE LEAGUE movie has been on and off again more times than Batman has brought up his dead parents, with a future more confusing than Robin's sexuality. So where is the film now? Producer Dan Lin recently gave somewhat of an update on the status of JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Lin confirmed that the film is still on hold for now, adding that his thoughts on the studio's possible strategy for the film.
"It seems like they’re (Warner Bros.) building to Justice League instead of going with the team movie first and doing individual movies after that."
Lin also confirmed that WB will be unveiling their strategy for their DC properties in January, potentially announcing a few new individual films for some of their characters. There was no mention of the JUSTICE LEAGUE's proposed style, as it was once said to be motion capture versus live-action.
So, all this really leads us to is more of the wait-and-see game. The good news out of this news is we may just be around the corner from getting a solid word on a BATMAN 3, another SUPERMAN, a WONDER WOMAN movie and, God-willing, a FLASH film.
To add my own commentary on the idea of a JUSTICE LEAGUE film, or team superhero films for that matter, I'm highly skeptical to say the least. To attempt to fit in numerous characters, all with their own strong personalities played by actors with their own strong personalities, seems like a cluster...well, you know. And would you even be able to get the actors to participate without their own respective directors? Christian Bale as Batman without Chris Nolan? Not sure Mr. Bale would go for that. Rumor is he can be a pretty strong-willed, stubborn guy...
However, DC does have a leg up with their franchise. While they may not be pumping out films like Marvel, they have a little bit more room to plan their major titles around a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. Marvel already has the major players of The Avengers in production, in pre-production or already established with sequels on the way. Can you imagine Robert Downey Jr., Edward Norton, Chris Hemsworth, and whatever notable actors that are to play Captain America and Ant Man all in one movie? I'm sure you are saying yes right now, because on the surface the idea of it seems mind-blowingly awesome. But in reality, these are all actors playing characters from various director's visions. You can't shove them all in one film, directed by someone with a totally new take on who they have been in other film universes. Of course, Jon Favreau could be the one man for the job as he seems to have the balance and tone of a fun yet somewhat serious, action-filled comic book film down pat. Unfortunately, he's made it pretty clear that the only thing he wants to do with THE AVENGERS is produce. Unfortunately. Without him, I can't imagine this film working with a new director who's new to these character's and the Marvel universe.
Of course this is just my opinion formed out of speculation on the idea of the film. I'm still open to it being done, as if it could be pulled off, it would be truly epic. What do you think? JUSTICE LEAGUE and THE AVENGERS getting their owns films a good idea or a bad idea?
