Production begins for PIRANHA 3DD
The Weinstein Company’s sequel to last year’s surprisingly fun remake PIRANHA has begun production.
FEAST director John Gulager is at the helm of PIRANHA 3DD, a film that features a cast of mostly unknowns. While no stars are attached to the film so far, a few familiar character actors will appear, including David Koechner (ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGANDY) and Western television star Clu Gulager (who also appeared in his son's FEAST trilogy).
The rest of the cast consists of young up-and-comers Danielle Panabaker (THE CRAZIES remake), Matt Bush (ADVENTURELAND), Chris Zylka (the upcoming THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN), Meagan Tandy (UNSTOPPABLE), Paul James Jordan, and Jean-Luc Bilodeau.
Although the plot in a film like this is meaningless, the studio has provided a plot teaser for PIRANHA 3DD:
“There’s something in the water . . . again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.”
The film is set to be released later this year on November 23. Here’s to hoping that the sequel keeps the exploitative, gratuitous nature of the first film alive.
