R.L. Stine’s “It’s the First Day of School…Forever!” going from the page to the screen
A few months back, we brought you news of a possible Goosebumps revival in big screen film form from screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (DISTURBIA). But it seems that one of author R.L. Stine's other books may give children chills first.
Gotham Group has optioned the rights to It's the First Day of School...Forever!, a new novel from the popular adolescent fantasy and horror writer. The story centers around a 12-year-old boy who is trapped in the waking nightmare of reliving his horrible first day of school over and over again. The boy must then discover a way out of the nightmare.
Gotham Group CEO, founder, and producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein sees the film as "a thoroughly reimagined DIARY OF A WIMPY KID meets GROUNDHOG DAY." Sounds about right. The company seeks to attach a writer for shopping the film around to studios.
It's the First Day of School...Forever! will hit shelves in paperback form in July.
The property fits nicely in Gotham's current youth centric projects, as they have the Taylor Lautner-starring ABDUCTION at Lionsgate, an adaptation of the young adult fantasy The Maze Runner at Fox, and the animated HOW TO SURVIVE A GARDEN GNOME ATTACK at Sony Pictures Animation.
