Ralph Fiennes joining BOND 23?
With Javier Bardem likely set to join the upcoming 23rd film in the James Bond franchise, simply titled BOND 23 at this point, apparently Sam Mendes is pulling out all the stops for this film’s cast.
Baz Bamigboye over at the Daily Mail has revealed (and a hat tip to The Playlist for digging this up), that actor Ralph Fiennes is currently “in discussions” for a role in the upcoming film. Allegedly, the role will be “darkly complex,” but not the role that is currently on the table being offered to Javier Bardem, thus not the film’s primary villain.
The role is “one of extreme complexity,” one that “only an actor of great ability and dexterity” can tackle, so if Mendes’ point was to find one with a skill that strong, they have truly barked up the perfect tree here. Fiennes is reportedly excited about the film’s “revolutionary” approach, so all things seem to point to Fiennes taking on a major role in the upcoming film.
However, what in fact could this role be? Unlike most franchises, you can never prognosticate about what role may be in question here, so until it’s revealed, we are all pretty much in the dark. Maybe a fellow agent that double crosses Bond? Maybe a suave business man who feeds cash to Bardem’s brutish baddie? The options are really endless.
