Ray Liotta joins the cast of THINGS FALL APART
If it was legendary actor Ray Liotta’s dream to be featured in a movie with rapper-turned-actor Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, then he is finally getting his wish. Mario Van Peebles is in the director’s chair this time around, with a script penned by Jackson and Brian Miller. The story of THINGS FALL APART focuses on Jackson, who plays a college running back phenom in the wake of personal tragedy that he must overcome if he wants to make it big. I’m guessing by the title that it might not have a happy ending?
Liotta is playing the part of a doctor in the film, which might be a first in the actor’s career. Maybe he took the part simply because of the fact he didn’t have to play a cop or a gangster this time around. Makes perfect sense, really.
Would this movie be happening if it wasn’t for the success of THE BLIND SIDE? It’s another sports movie that looks to have a white person help out a troubled black kid with his football career. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Personally, after VICTORY and RUDY, I really think the bases have been covered. We don’t need anymore sports movies, just like we can do without mafia pictures now that we have THE GODFATHER. Let NASA do a movie in space, Obama! That would be original at least.
