REAL STEEL getting a sequel? John Gatins tapped to write the screenplay
Just about half a year out from the film’s release, DreamWorks apparently feels as though their upcoming Hugh Jackman vehicle, REAL STEEL, is worthy of making what appears to be a burgeoning franchise out of.
Deadline is reporting that John Gatins has been tapped to come back after writing the upcoming film, and pen the sequel.
Apparently, the studio premiered some footage from REAL STEEL at this year’s CinemaCon, that really garnered quite a bit of solid buzz, so much so, that the studio now has made the move to work on a sequel. It will be interesting to see when this project does ultimately go into production, particularly because Jackman does appear hell bent on getting another Wolverine picture into production, and with director Shawn Levy becoming one of the hottest directorial names around, this will definitely be a priority for DreamWorks.
For those who may not remember, REAL STEEL follows a father/son team who take to the ring training robots to box, because apparently, in the future, that’s what we humans really dig. Don’t know why, but whatever. Co-starring Anthony Mackie, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, and Kevin Durand, the film is definitely an interesting little project, one that despite Levy’s name attached, does have a lot of interesting factors behind it. Hopefully it can live up to the hype DreamWorks has now given it.
