Red-band trailer for THAT’S MY BOY debuts

Joshua Brunsting

March 1st, 2012

Is this the film that could revive Adam Sandler’s career? Is this, R-rated romp the film that could cleans the utterly destroyed Sandler palette? Well, if this trailer is any hint, the answer is probably not.

The first trailer for the new Sandler film, THAT’S MY BOY, has arrived, and not only is it utterly uninteresting, but aggressively, in your face, viscerally unfunny. The film follows the story of a dead beat rock star dad who, following some financial troubles, tries to reconcile with his son, in the hopes of getting some cash.  With final re-writes done by the team of Ken Marino and David Wain, the film does appear to have a bit of potential, but good lord is this trailer not good.

I will say this however, there are glimmers of potential here.  I think that the team of Marino/Wain have given their style of humor over to this film, as you can see little moments of something really funny under the surface.  These moments are few and far between, but this is easily one of the best looking films Sandler has done since FUNNY PEOPLE.

But then again, that is saying absolutely nothing.  Nothing at all.  Less than nothing, honestly.
