Refn and Gosling’s ONLY GOD FORGIVES has found a home
Following the crazy success of his last film, DRIVE, director Nicolas Winding Refn and his bunk buddy, Ryan Gosling, could probably do absolutely no wrong in the eyes of the studios. With their next partnership, LOGAN’S RUN, on the way, their THIRD effort together, a film entitled ONLY GOD FORGIVES, has finally found a home. And in a VOD outlet, no less.
According to Deadline, The Weinstein Company and their shingle Radius has nabbed up the rights. The film follows the story of a man who, with his brother, runs a Thai boxing crew in Bangkok following the murder of a cop at the hands of our protagonist. When his brother is killed, he is forced to fight for revenge, along with his mother played by Kristin Scott Thomas.
At this point, no release date is set, but with filming underway, one should expect to see this come late this year, or, more likely, around Cannes next year. Personally, Refn is not only one of my favorite working filmmakers, but this partnership seems to only birth greatness. Hopefully this one fits that bill, set by DRIVE.
