Steven Soderbergh, one of today’s most prolific filmmakers, is set to have one hell of a year over the next twelve months. Not only has his next film, CONTAGION, been tapped as a huge player in the latter part of this year’s film cycle, but now his follow up, HAYWIRE, has found a home and a release date.

Deadline is reporting that Relativity Media has nabbed up the rights to HAYWIRE, Soderbergh’s action thriller, and have set it for a January 20, 2012 release.

The film joins MACHINE GUN PREACHER as films either directly handed over by Lionsgate or, in the case of HAYWIRE, stolen out of the grasp of the distributor (they were considered the lead for the rights to this film), and is easily their biggest one to date.

HAYWIRE stars Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Bill Paxton, Antonio Banderas, and Michael Angarano, and is easily one of the most intriguing projects coming down the pipeline.  The idea of seeing what Soderbergh can do with an all-out action film is definitely interesting, and with this A-list cast, what can really go wrong?
