Release date round-up: MORNING GLORY changes, THE AVENGERS sticks, THE TREE OF LIFE gets set?
THR reports that MORNING GLORY's release date has slid from November 12 (a typical Friday opening) to November 10 (for a little Wednesday jump on the action). The film will now have a clear field for comedy at the box office for two weeks, but DUE DATE does open the week before, a film I expect to have some legs on it.
In "release date news that is not quite news," THR also reports that Disney will keep THE AVENGERS on track for a May 4, 2012 opening. After Disney took over the marketing and distribution rights for the film earlier this week, there was some concern that they would move the release date, but fans can keep that date Sharpie-d on their calendars. For the latest on a possible TREE OF LIFE release date, hit that jump (yes, I am making you work for it).
Over at /Film, word is out the Terrence Malick's much talked-about (though I am beginning to think we need a stronger term for this film, "much TREEed-about"?) latest, THE TREE OF LIFE, may finally have an official release date. Box Office Mojo has the film scheduled to open on May 27, 2011. The Slash-ers sagely note this places the film opening just five days after the Cannes Film Festival wraps, only adding to speculation the film will premiere there.
Interestingly, the film's IMDb page does list a number of foreign release dates, including Russia and the UK in January, Norway in February, and Finland in March. We'll continue to wait for official word from Fox Searchlight.
