Release dates for THIS MEANS WAR and CHRONICLE set
Apparently, Fox is looking to the early months of the year to bust out some of their bigger guns, instead of dumping them all during the summer months.
Variety is reporting that the studio is set to release two of their bigger projects in February of 2012. First up, they will be releasing McG’s upcoming film, THIS MEANS WAR, on February 17. Directed by McG, the film stars a really solid cast including Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine, and follows two friends (who are also spies), who fight over a girl the two have fallen for.
This pits the film against the likes of SAFE HOUSE, the re-release of THE PHANTOM MENACE, and the upcoming GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, all of which are getting February releases. Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of McG as a filmmaker, I do dig the cast, so hopefully this will be a step above the director’s previous works.
And yet another film is getting an early release, as the studio will be placing their upcoming “found footage” superhero film, CHRONICLE, on February 3. The film is penned by Max Landis and directed by Josh Trank, and stars Dane DeHann. The film itself sounds rather interesting - it follows three teens who gain superpowers, so while the “found footage” style and genre is a bit played out, this could prove to be a really interesting entry.
