Release dates set for LEGO, 42 and CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER
Get the calendars out ladies and gents, because a trio of rather intriguing projects have just gotten release dates.
First, and probably the most intriguing if only because of the bizarre choice of property, WB has slated Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s next film (and no, it’s not a fast-tracked 21 JUMP STREET sequel), LEGO, to hit theaters on February 28, 2014. The duo wrote the script, which at this point is all we really know about the film.
WB has also set April 12 of next year as the release date for their pending Jackie Robinson biopic, 42. Starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford, the film will look at the life of Robinson, the first African-American Major League Baseball star. Finally, CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER, a Sundance darling, will bow on August 3, thanks to Sony Pictures Classics. The film stars Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg.
Personally, the film I think I’m most intrigued to see is 42. I’m a huge baseball nut, and the story of Robinson’s entrance into Major League Baseball is one of the greatest sports stories ever. CELESTE sounds like a fine indie comedy, and while I loved JUMP STREET, LEGO couldn’t be a less interesting of a follow-up, to me, for Miller and Lord. Hopefully, I’m wrong.
