Release Dates: THE SKIN I LIVE IN, TAKE SHELTER
Two films set to take part in the festivities at this year’s Cannes Film Festival have finally found themselves dates for their theatrical premieres.
First up, while it hasn’t been given an exact date, Sony Pictures Classics has announced that their upcoming release of Pedro Almodovar’s THE SKIN I LIVE IN, will happen sometime during the month of November. Also, they have released a synopsis for the film, which will star Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet, Roberto Alamo, Blanca Suárez, Eduard Fernández, José Luis Gómez, Bárbara Lennie, Susi Sánchez, Fernando Cayo and Teresa Manresa. The film will also see the director re-team with his composer, Alberto Iglesias, cinematographer Jose Alcaine and editor Jose Salcedo.
Check out the synopsis, and some news on the Sundance smash, TAKE SHELTER, after the break.
Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…
In other news, Jeff Nichols’ upcoming film, TAKE SHELTER, which took this year’s Sundance Film Festival by storm (and are very own Chase Whale's heart), will bow on October 7. Starring Michael Shannon, the film follows a man who falls into a spiral as he is consumed by thoughts of an imminent apocalypse. Both films will play this Cannes this year (SKIN will be in competition and SHELTER in the Critics Week sidebar), so expect much more on both of these films during our coverage of the Cannes Film Festival. Personally, I’m excited for both of these things, primarily THE SKIN I LIVE IN, so here’s to hoping that one finds an exact date relatively soon.
