Rian Johnson’s LOOPER to begin filming in January
Now that Rian Johnson is done with his "B Trilogy" (BRICK, BROTHERS BLOOM, and an episode of Breaking Bad) he is ready to start production on a new saga of L-titled films. The first in this line is LOOPER staring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. According to Production Weekly, LOOPER will begin filming in January. LOOPER looks to be Johnson's most ambitious film yet as it is described as a time-travel thriller. Both Willis and Levitt have previously talked about LOOPER and you can find out their thoughts after the break.
Bruce Willis has previously gone on the record saying that LOOPER is...
"..not about time travel as much as it is about mistakes you have made and things you don't want to do and your little childhood self coming near your adult life going 'No, you're not going to do that. I've got to fucking kill me.'"
While most of that statement is unintelligible, it does paint an interesting picture. As is also the case with Levitt's comment on the film. A few months ago JGL tweeted this statement with the HashTag of LOOPER...
"The following statement is false. The preceding sentence is true"
If your mind isn't effectively melted yet here are Rain Johnson's own comments on LOOPER...
"set in a near future where time travel doesn't exist but will be invented in a few decades. [The story] involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn't technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there."
So there we have it. I expect LOOPER to be one wild ride and, as always, in Rian Johnson I trust.
