While it remains to be seen just how down to earth this film may ultimately be, apparently director Richard Kelly has had his fill of out of this world sci-fi fare.

Variety is reporting that Kelly will next be directing a new film, entitled CORPUS CHRISTI, which follows the story of Iraq War vet Patience De La Rosa, and his relationship with supermarket boss man Ralph Salverson. Kelly will also produce the film, along with his producing partner Sean McKittrick and Eli Roth, and definitely marks a change in subject matter for the man behind films like DONNIE DARKO, SOUTHLAND TALES, and THE BOX.

Personally, while I’m not much of a fan of Kelly’s previous work, this definitely sounds like an intriguing project. It will be a film to definitely keep an eye on, as it is so far out of the director’s previously set wheelhouse. That said, the departure could be just what the doctor ordered for Kelly, so here’s to hoping that this could be the push forward the director’s been looking for. I know I can’t wait for this damn thing.
