Richard Linklater eyeing COLLEGE REPUBLICANS; Shia LaBeouf might play Karl Rove
As someone who is not only interested in politics but also devotes a great deal of time to campaigns and staying up to date on issues, I love movies with political themes. Despite how batshit insane Oliver Stone is, I still check out his latest releases; I see almost every politically enthused documentary I can, especially the ones from Alex Gibney. Thus, you can imagine how excited I am that Karl Rove's adapted presence might make its way to the big screen.
Apparently, that just might be the case - Shia LaBeouf has expressed interest in the part and Richard Linklater has been listed as a possible director for the project. Hit the jump for the full story.
Karl Rove rose to political prominence early; he was a critical member of the Utah College Republicans and became the Executive Director of the College Republican National Committee. Granted, he had to drop out of college to take the job, but we'll let that irony slide for now.
This story of Karl Rove's early years in politics could parallel the compelling narrative of THE SOCIAL NETWORK. It's a tale of power, lies, and one too many egos in a room. With an actor like LaBeouf on board, this could gain mainstream traction and Linklater's involvement would hopefully guarantee a certain artistic quality. All in all, I'm stoked.
