Ridley Scott to pass go and collect the directing job on MONOPOLY?
Director Ridley Scott has his name attached to a very unexpected project: MONOPOLY, based on the Hasbro board game.
Scott made a name for himself in the late 70's and early 80's by directing ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER within three years of each other. A few missteps aside, Scott has had a lot of success in Hollywood and not of all it has been as a director. His producing credits include big name franchises (THE A-TEAM), as well as under-seen critical darlings (THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD).
Comments by Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner seem to indicate that Scott could be more than just a producer on MONOPOLY:
"MONOPOLY is still happening, and we're developing a great story. It's a very fun take. Ridley is still the perfect creative steward, because he creates these great, fictionalized worlds. It's going to be a very fun story to tell."
Instead of dealing with the world’s current financial crisis, according to Goldner, MONOPOLY will be more of “a timeless story.”
The timetable for the film is uncertain at this point to say the least, especially because Scott’s film PROMETHEUS has just started shooting.
