Rob Zombie to direct LORDS OF SALEM

Despite making two rather deplorable entries in the HALLOWEEN franchise (although I still find a bit to enjoy in his first film), Rob Zombie not only seems to still get work, but is still one of the more interesting names in the genre that is horror films.

With his first few films, particularly the rather amazing HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and the even more amazing THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, the director has since been relegated to directing direct to DVD animated films, as with his last film, the pile of garbage known as THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO.

That said, he’s still been getting work. He was previously attached to a remake of THE BLOB, and the yet to move forward TYRANNOSAURUS REX, and now Deadline is reporting that the filmmaker has finally settled on his next film. Entitled LORDS OF SALEM, the film is currently being set up at Haunted Films, the studio behind the hit horror film, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.

At this point, the film is best described as being set in Salem, where the modern citizens are coming under attack from reanimated witches. Sounds kind of not interesting.

Apparently, the project has been in the mind of Zombie for a while now, and is moving forward as his next project after he decided to jump ship, ditching his long talked about BLOB remake. Personally, this is kind of a bittersweet story. As opposed to the seemingly outspoken consensus against his BLOB remake, I actually thought that his style could be perfectly used with that project. It’s sad to see him leave the film, but this project, while having a lame premise, does seem to fit his sensibilities. Hell, as long as it’s not HALLOWEEN 3, I’ll be a happy camper.

About Joshua Brunsting

Born in the tiny Michigan city known as Holland, and raised in the even smaller city known as Saugatuck, I have been a film geek for the majority of my life, and have known film was my passion ever since the final frame of THE LION KING. I’m a romantic with a thing for 60’s pop music (preferably French), John Keats poems, and an even bigger thing for film noir. Currently a Journalism Major at Grand Valley State University, I am using my love of film, and my deathly, ninja-like, skill behind the keyboard to slowly take over the world. When I’m not writing about or watching film, I’m listening to music, particularly from the likes of TV on the Radio, Best Coast, and Semi Precious Weapons. I play the ukulele, and I also have a deep and intense love for Gustavo Santaolalla and Ennio Morricone, but then again, who doesn’t. I was drum major for my high school marching band for two years, I’m one of the four people who actually watched Dollhouse, and my favorite film of all time is Godard’s BREATHLESS. I’m a wannabe screenwriter, a wild thing, a nerd, a geek, and most importantly, I’m a lover of film. Oh, and I want to be Captain Planet when I grow up.
