Robert Downey Jr. has an INHERENT VICE
Paul Thomas Anderson may have found his new lead for INHERENT VICE in Robert Downey Jr. RDJ has the time for another film after THE AVENGERS wraps now that he's no longer a part of Disney's OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.
While we reported that his name was at the top of Anderson's list back in December, now Downey's interest is piqued and his involvement is much more likely. Based on the Thomas Pynchon book of the same name, The Hollywood Reporter describes the film as "a comparatively accessible Pynchon work that tells the story of a stoner detective who gets wrapped up in a number of mysteries in 1969 L.A. while the Manson Family trial growls in the background."
Downey last starred in DUE DATE and IRON MAN 2, and has a slew of movies set to come out in the next two years, including high profile projects like SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS (December 2011), IRON MAN 3 (summer 2013), and THE AVENGERS (summer 2012). While he's not confirmed for this role, he is seriously considering it, so expect an official announcement soon.
