Robert Luketic directing new heist film BRILLIANT
Robert Luketic is taking a break from romantic comedies with his next film titled BRILLIANT, according to The Playlist. Luketic made a name for himself by directing LEGALLY BLONDE starring Reese Witherspoon. Since then his career has definitely gone down hill with films like THE UGLY TRUTH and KILLERS.
Casting is currently underway on the film, with no start date announced. BRILLIANT is written by Gillian Gorfil (producer of BLOOD DIAMOND) and Elizabeth Shorten, according to Variety. The story “revolves around a small-time criminal who becomes the protege of the some of the world’s most accomplished thieves as they prepare the biggest diamond heist of all time.”
I enjoyed Luketic's 21, which also had some nice doses of action. My main source of enjoyment in that film was Kevin Spacey's work. I am a huge fan of heist films and this sounds pretty cool. One of my favorite parts of films such as BRILLIANT include training sequences between protege and pro, so I am interested to learn more about this project.
