Robert Zemeckis will direct FLIGHT for Paramount

Director Robert Zemeckis hasn’t directed a live-action film since the 2000 hit CAST AWAY with Tom Hanks. Since then, he’s worked on a number of films that utilize motion-capture technology, mostly to disappointing results. Disney nixed what would have been another motion-capture project based on the Beatles film YELLOW SUBMARINE upon the bombing of the Zemeckis-backed MARS NEEDS MOMS.

It's safe to say that the career of this highly respected Oscar winner has hit a low point, but he’s currently looking to bring himself back to the top of the game. He’s been interested in Paramount’s action-oriented drama FLIGHT for quite some time; The Los Angeles Times now reports that he's moving forward with the studio on the film.

FLIGHT will focus on a pilot who must rescue passengers on his plane from a dire situation somewhat caused by his own doings, as he’s a drug addict. Denzel Washington is negotiating to play the conflicted pilot in the film. It probably won’t be as engaging as previous Zemeckis flicks like BACK TO THE FUTURE and FORREST GUMP, but it’s great to see that the director won’t be meddling with motion-capture on this one.
