With the release date set for June 1, 2012, ROCK OF AGES is gearing up quickly to ensure it’s ready for its big summer release. With big names like Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin already attached, expect lots of updates as other stars round out the cast.

Deadline is reporting that Paul Giamatti will play the Manager of Tom Cruise’s out of control rockstar, Stacee Jax. While it’s uncertain how much singing the Manger will have in the film, Giamatti does have a pretty good set of pipes, given his singing role in DUETS with Gwenyth Paltrow.

For more on Amy Adams and how you could potentially join the cast, keep reading after the break.

Amy Adams is also circling the role that nearly went to Anne Hathaway and Gwenyth Paltrow. THE FIGHTER star would play the journalist who wants to destroy Tom Cruise’s rock star character, Stacee Jax, in an expose, but ultimately ends up falling into bed with him. Amy Adams showed off her vocal talent in Disney’s ENCHANTED, and earned three Best Song Oscar nominations for that role.

While most major roles have been filled by Hollywood’s top talent, one crucial part remains open. Adam Shankman is holding an open audition for the leading role of Drew Boley. According to Warner Bros., Drew is “the nicest aspiring rocker you’ll find in the Bourbon Room. He’s a talented singer/guitarist...when he is immediately smitten by the lovely Sherrie.” Sherrie will be played by former Dancing with the Stars champion, Julianne Hough.

The open casting call will take place in Los Angeles on March 26th. Won’t be in LA on that date? Not to worry, this is the digital age after all! For more info or to audition online, visit www.rockofagesmoviecasting.com

Given the big names and money involved, it’s a bit surprising they’d leave the biggest role to an open casting call, but this could just be the new, digital way of casting an “unknown.”
