Last night Adam Shankman took to twitter (@adammshankman) to confirm some rumors and also stir up new ones. While the cast is still being speculated on, with only Tom Cruise confirmed, many big names are being thrown around like Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary J. Blige, and Alec Baldwin.

The only concrete addition Shankman tweeted was that Mia Michaels, Emmy-award-winning choreographer and judge on So You Think You Can Dance, will be doing the choreography for the film. For more on Mia Michaels and the other tweeted rumors, keep reading after the break.

As a fan of SYTYCD, I think her routines are always among the season’s best. She’s been nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography four times, and won it twice, for her work on SYTYCD. She knows how to infuse dance with emotion and heart, which will be crucial for the story of the young couple at the center of ROCK OF AGES.

He also promised that the “full list of casting will be forth coming.” While Mary J. Blige has been rumored with this project for a while, he still hasn’t confirmed she’s locked in. However, he did say that he “hopes audiences will like Mary J Blige as Justice…but not confirming.”

While the involvement of Tom Cruise has many people skeptical of the film, Shankman thinks that “if you liked what [Shankman] did with HAIRSPRAY, you’ll love ROA. Breathe and trust...If you liked Tom in TROPIC THUNDER, this will top that.”

Other rumors he pointed out included Russell Brand as Lonnie and Alec Baldwin as Dennis. They’re starting the search for the young couple, Sherrie and Drew, so expect many updates as they start locking people in and production begins.
