Diego Gonzalez Boneta

It looks like that open casting call didn't produce any new, completely unknown talent. Adam Shankman's ROCK OF AGES has cast Diego González Boneta as the lead role, Drew Boley.

While you probably don't recognize his name, Boneta's appeared in the last two seasons of the CW's 90210 as Javier Luna, a pop singer who ultimately died in a limousine crash. He's also been on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars as a hardworking, salsa-dancing cook.

While Boneta's more known for his telenovela and tween soap opera roles, he started as a singer in Mexico. He was in a boy band, but really hit it big on the music scene in 2008 with his solo single “Perdido En Ti” (“Losing Me”) from EMI.

Fans of the Broadway show will undoubtedly be disappointed that Constantine Maroulis won't be playing the role on the big screen, especially given the praise he's gotten for his work on Broadway and in the national tour. But at 35 years old, Maroulis is simply too old to play the role on screen. The stage is much more forgiving for an age disparity like that, since Drew Boley is supposed to be in his early-20s.
