Rodman Flender may sound like a name ripped right out of some fantasy novel, but it’s a name that you’ll be hearing more and more from here on out.

With his Conan O’Brien documentary, CONAN O’BRIEN CAN’T STOP, making waves following its festival run and subsequent theatrical release, Flender has netted himself a brand new project to call all his own.

Deadline is reporting that Flender will write (along with wife Amy Lippman) and direct the film HOW I BECAME A FAMOUS NOVELIST, based on the novel from Steve Hely, of the same name. The story follows “a down-on-his-luck guy who resolves to write a bestselling novel solely to upstage his ex-girlfriend at her wedding. Even though he has loaded in every cliche and a well-worn plot line, the novelist watches his book become a raging bestseller. It's such a phenomenon that it inflames the literary community, alienates his ex and causes him to rethink what makes good writing worthwhile.”

While I have not seen CAN’T STOP yet, I do know that it has been getting nothing but unanimous praise from the general public and critics alike. And while that may not mean this project will follow suit, it definitely makes this film a whole lot more interesting. I think the premise is really fun, and could make for a really good bit of cinema. Here’s to hoping it can live up to the potential.
