Romola Garai

Romola Garai has a had a brief but storied film career. She's had a part in a suprising number of period dramas based on great literary works (see storied, get it?). Let's see there's: DANIEL DERONDA, NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, I CAPTURE THE CASTLE, VANITY FAIR, AS YOU LIKE IT, ATONEMENT, and EMMA.

It's with surprise and a great deal of delight that I inform you that Garai has been cast in the latest film from AN EDUCATION director Lone Scherfig. Though Scherfig has worked for many years and has a handful of features under her belt, it wasn't until last year's critically acclaimed AN EDUCATION that she began receiving the proper attention on this side of the pond.

The film is called ONE DAY and you may recall our very own John Mulhern telling you that Anne Hathaway is one of the stars attached to star in the film. ONE DAY too is based on a novel (gasp!) by David Nicholls and tells the story of a couple who meet once a year for twenty years. Jim Sturgess plays the other half of the couple with Anne Hathaway. The story tracks the lives and loves of the pair until they realize they are meant to be. The film is compared to WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. It also reminds me a bit of BEFORE SUNRISE. Garai will play Sturgess' wife in the film, who ultimately gets dumped over the course of the story.

Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
