Ruben Fleischer to direct buddy cop comedy
Earlier today, Heat Vision reported that Ruben Fleischer was on a very short list of directors being considered for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4. It looks like that list just got shorter, leaving Brad Bird and Edgar Wright to battle for the spot. Fleischer already has another project lined up; the follow-up to his hit action comedy, ZOMBIELAND.
Dreamworks just bought a pitch based on an idea by Fleischer, who will both direct and executive produce the project. The story is being kept under wraps, though from the “buddy cop comedy” description, I’m picturing COP OUT. I hope I’m wrong.
The screenplay is being written by Mike Arnold and Chris Poole, the comedy duo who first gained popularity when their script for THE GRACKLE made The Black List in 2006. Since then they’ve started a few projects that never quite got off the ground. It’ll be nice to finally see what these two are capable of.
