Rumor: Danny Boyle to helm 28 MONTHS LATER
Take this one with a giant, zombie/infected human-sized grain of salt.
According to DreadCentral (via The Playlist) Danny Boyle "is planning to return to direct" the upcoming third film in the 28 DAYS LATER franchise, the franchise that Boyle himself kickstarted with the titular horror masterpiece.
With 127 HOURS looking to follow up Boyle's Oscar darling SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE with a collection of Academy nominations, it may seem a tad bit odd for an ever growing filmmaker like Boyle to return to a past franchise, but this has been something Boyle has been interested in doing since the second film debuted.
However, I just don't see this happening. Personally, I would love to see Boyle return to the franchise, but I also don't truly want Boyle to delve into a franchise or genre that he's already been through. I wasn't a huge fan of SLUMDOG, but films like SUNSHINE and what I've seen of 127 HOURS has proven that this man is truly far more talented than we could have ever expected. That all said, I'd like to meet the person who would skip a Danny Boyle-directed third 28 DAYS film. I'd punch that person square in the face for fear of catching what ever the hell disease made them make that stupid decision.
