Rumor Mill: Morgan Freeman to star as The Colonel in live action AKIRA?
Earlier this week, we heard rumor that none other than teen heartthrob Zac Efron could possibly be the one to don the red leather for The Hughes Brothers' live action adaptation of the beloved 1980 Manga, Akira, and 1988 anime of the same name.
Well, where there's one rumor there's usually many. They're like plane crashes. And hopefully, that's not what the big-screen AKIRA will be akin to if it ever sees the light of day. The supposed involvement of one Morgan Freeman could certainly help that to not be true.
Freeman has taken part in a few action-centric roles as of late, with RED, WANTED, and LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN to his credit. Now, as rumor would have it, Mr. Freeman may be up for the part of Colonel Shikishima AKA The Colonel in AKIRA. Hope he looks good with a flat top!
For those not familiar with the cinematic cyberpunk comic, the Colonel character plays an integral part in the plot (which you can read all about HERE). Which brings me to saying that if you haven’t yet seen the anime version of AKIRA, then you are missing out on what is virtually the STAR WARS of Japanese animation.
So AKIRA fans, what do you think of Freeman as Shikishima? Love it? Hate it? Have someone better in mind?
