Rumor patrol: Brad Pitt to play John Lennon in biopic?
Rumors have been swirling that Brad Pitt is in talks to play John Lennon in a biopic. No less than 60 sources have run with the story over the last 72 hours, while one report has attempted to dispel the rumor. Through all of it, the media has used unnamed sources, so what we are left with is a juicy rumor that one of the biggest stars alive will play one of the biggest icons in 20th century world history.
The stories that say this project is a very real possibility insist that Pitt met with Yoko Ono and she is convinced that Pitt should play the part of her late husband (of course, how many women would not say Pitt is perfect to play their husband?).
An unnamed source told The Daily Express, “Brad already has a writer working on the script. And Yoko has given the project her blessing so long as it’s true to John’s life. He wants to do all the singing himself and plans to take voice lessons. If he can’t pull it off they’ll use John’s own voice. He has also been immersing himself in videos and books so he can get Lennon’s mannerisms down pat.”
I guess my one reservation about this would be that Brad Pitt looks nothing like the murdered Beatle, solo artist, and activist. Or is that just me? Plus, if my own history is any indication, this film will not happen. Every time I have raised an eyebrow about an actor playing an icon, the project has been put on hold or completely fallen through (e.g. Russell Crowe to play Bill Hicks, Elijah Wood to play Iggy Pop, and Renee Zellweger to play Janis Joplin).
