In a recent interview for his new film THE ROAD, director John Hillcoat spilled the beans on his next project THE WETTEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD, said to involve "west Virginia, moonshine, backwoods, and Prohibition." The film is written by musician-turned-screenwriter Nick Cave, who wrote the very underrated western film THE PROPOSITION. Not much more is known about the plot at this point, but Hillcoat did give a little insight into the casting of THE WETTEST COUNTY.
According to the director, Ryan Gosling (HALF NELSON, THE NOTEBOOK) and Shia LaBeouf (TRANSFORMERS, INDIANA JONES) are currently attached to star in the film. Hillcoat did not reveal much else, saying that he "shouldn’t really talk about it cause it’s in the middle of all sorts of stuff."
The idea of a film in this setting, written by Nick Cave, starring two of the most talented young actors of this generation (Gosling being one of my favorites in general) gets me, shall we say, more than a little excited!
