Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling (THE NOTEBOOK, BLUE VALENTINE) has been cast in the lead role of Warner Bros. LOGAN'S RUN remake. Nicolas Winding Refn is set to helm this tentpole for the studio. Gosling has worked with Refn on the upcoming DRIVE, in which he plays a stunt driver who moonlights as a wheel man for heists. LOGAN'S RUN has had a bunch of talented directors attached to helm, including Bryan Singer and Carl Erik Rinsch.

Deadline reports that "Gosling will play Logan 5, a 'Sandman' whose job it was to put to permanent sleep those who try to escape mandatory death, the downside of the blissful existence in the domed city that protects the inhabitants who survived a 23rd Century apocalypse."

This will mark Gosling's biggest role to date. He is a great actor and I am sure he will do a great job with the role. Alex Garland (SUNSHINE, 28 DAYS LATER) wrote the script for the film. This is great news, in my opinion, and sets the remake up to possibly be an even better than the original.

The original film came out in the summer of 1976, the year I was born. Below is a brief description of that film:

"It is 2274. Some type of holocaust has decimated the earth, and the survivors sealed themselves into a domed city near Washington, D.C. To maintain the population balance, the computers that run the city have decreed that all people must die at 30. This system is enforced by "sandmen" : black-clad police operatives who terminate (kill) "runners" (those who attempt to live beyond 30). Logan, a sandman, is sent on a mission to find "sanctuary," which is a code- word used by the master computer to describe what it believes is a place to which runners have been escaping. Logan begins to question the system he serves and after seeing for himself that there is life beyond the dome, he returns to destroy the computer."
