Ryan Reynolds caught in a custody battle between GREEN LANTERN and DEADPOOL

Ryan Reynolds

How can you not want to fight over Ryan Reynolds' chiseled manly abs of justice? Well, apparently studios can't help it, in fact. As many of you already know, Reynolds just wrapped shooting GREEN LANTERN (which will be DC's first attempt at a Marvel-type franchise). However, Reynolds has also been long-attached to the DEADPOOL movie that would aim to be a spin-off of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. I have been all for Reynolds in both costumed scenarios, but it looks like studios are not so keen on the idea.

Robert Liefeld, creator of Deadpool in the comics, sent out a message on Twitter regarding the prospects of Reynolds as DEADPOOL, and it's looking a little bleak.

Studios have been battling over Reynolds for a while now, and with Michael Goldenberg (HARRY POTTER & THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX) already churning out the GREEN LANTERN 2 script, it would appear that Warner Bros. is winning.

Liefeld commented on Twitter, saying this:

"Warner Bros is just trying to protect their investment. They don't want Ryan Reynolds playing Dealpool AND Green Lantern."

This really isn't necessarily surprising news, so much as it is disappointing. Ryan Reynolds would have been the perfect Deadpool and, while I am happy with him as The Green Lantern, I think anyone could have played ol' green rings.

Let's just hope Robert Rodriguez gets his hands on DEADPOOL before its...well, "DEAD" in the water.

“Lets hope Robert Rodriguez” bumps into the taliban and gets his hands cut off so he’ll never touch another film again

I agree, given the choice, I’d rather see Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and some other viably heroic choice pick up Green Lantern. Deadpool needs that smarmy suave delivery that Reynolds has been perfecting for years (at least since Two Guys, a Girl, and A Pizza Place).
