RZA’s MAN WITH THE IRON FIST currently shooting in China
There are very few films that I’m truly as intrigued by quite as much as the upcoming directorial effort of The Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, entitled THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST.
Well, thankfully things appear to be going full steam ahead.
Twitch is reporting that the film is currently shooting in China, and is a $20 million effort that is being backed by Universal.
The martial arts film was penned, produced, and starring the rapper, along with guidance by fellow producer, Eli Roth. The director also co-wrote the film with RZA, and the film’s “Chinese film crew are so fast and efficient I feel like I’m watching an episode of Benny Hill.” Color me intrigued.
The film apparently follows a blacksmith in feudal China, who must help a small village defend itself by forging weapons. The script “mixes kung fu with a spaghetti Western mindset and a hip hop influence.” Apparently RZA has learned quite a bit from watching people like both Tarantino and Roth, who he has become quite the good of friends with. Personally, I cannot wait for this damn thing. I am a huge martial arts film fan, and this may sound like a bit of a cliché premise, but it does in fact sound like a really interesting project from director who has the pedigree to be a really interesting filmmaker.
