Sacha Baron Cohen-starring Freddie Mercury biopic to film this year
I never would have considered putting Sacha Baron Cohen into the role of one of music’s greatest frontmen, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, but now that he is in the role it seems to make perfect sense. In fact, I can’t even imagine anyone else taking up the role.
Now, the project is all set to go behind the cameras this year and we’ve got an update to prove it.
The update comes from Queen’s guitarist Brian May, you can check out what he had to say below!
“Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie ! The whole team now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late Autumn of 2012. We are also laying the foundations for WWRY THE MOVIE, and again, we already have a great script for it from Ben.”
By WWRY, he is mentioning a film version of the Queen musical WE WILL ROCK YOU. It’s really interesting to see all this movement on Queen related movies and proves that they are a band that will go down in history. They deserve it, they are the champions, after all.
