With a spot in the weird little cast that has been built for director Marc Webb and his upcoming AMAZING SPIDER-MAN project, Sally Field is seeing a bit of a return to big screen relevance. And talk about a project to toss onto that ever growing pile.

The actress has been tapped by iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg to star as Mary Todd Lincoln in the director’s upcoming film, LINCOLN.  Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, the film is being set up over at DreamWorks, and will be based off of the book, Team Of Rivals.

The story was penned by Tony Kushner based on the Doris Kearns Goodwin book, and will look at the “political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.”

It goes without saying that Field is an immensely gifted actress, one who has seen something of a revival ever since starting Brothers & Sisters, one of ABC’s strongest TV shows. She’s a fantastic actress, and one that will definitely play well across the screen from Day-Lewis, maybe today’s finest actor. This film is slowly starting to take shape, and it’s one hell of a pretty shape to boot.
