SALT getting a sequel?

Apparently, middling box office numbers and even less enthusiastic reviews is a perfect combination for a sequel.

According to the LA Times, writer Kurt Wimmer has an idea for a sequel to his latest piece of work, the Angelina Jolie vehicle, SALT, that both Jolie and director Phillip Noyce are interested in returning to the burgeoning franchise. Yes, both Noyce and Jolie are a bit busy, particularly Jolie, who was just announced to a new Marilyn Monroe film. But hey, it looks like the writing is on the wall for this thing.

Personally, while I’m not the biggest fan of the middle of the road thriller, I’m not too turned off by talk of a sequel. I think that a sequel could make for an interesting story, and if there is one thing SALT did well, it was immerse you into a world of pulpy espionage. Sure, it wasn’t the best spy story, but in this Bond-free world, it’s a genre that needs to be filled. Might as well fill it with Angelina Jolie.
