Sam Rockwell

The names of people attaching themselves to Andrew Dominik’s COGAN’S TRADE are trickling in one at a time. Last week, right after Brad Pitt confirmed he would be in the film, Gordon And The Whale reported a list of names rumored to be interested in joining Pitt. Sam Rockwell is now the first of those names to be confirmed. This will be the second time he has been involved in a project with Pitt and Dominik, with the first being 2007′s THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

It has been reported that Casey Affleck will likely sign onto the project, but his involvement is yet to be confirmed. If he does take a role, they might as well call the film JESSE JAMES 2, or make it a prequel. After Affleck, the other names that have been rumored for the film are Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana.

The movie will focus on Jackie Cogan, who is an enforcer trying to find the source of a heist that takes place during a mob poker game. It has not been confirmed which actor is being eyed to play Cogan, but I would personally bet Pitt if I had to make a conjecture. However, with all the actors rumored to be involved, I would have to assume that there is a bevy of juicy roles available.

Rockwell’s name is not often listed with the heavyweights, but he has become one of our most reliable actors. In the last two years he excelled in CONVICTION, MOON, and FROST/NIXON and I felt he was the only actor who really played his part well, as the sleazy Justin Hammer, in IRON MAN 2. It is good news for Dominik that he is getting a cast together that he has proven he knows how to effectively use.
