Save the date! Oscar’s 85th birthday party set for February 24

March 14th, 2012

Despite a fair bit of talk about Oscar having his party a tad sooner, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to stick with tradition, announcing February 24, 2013 as the date for the 85th annual awards.

The Academy also let it be known that nominations will be announced on January 15, 2013 - an entire week earlier than this year's January 24th reveal, thus ensuring a whole seven more days of mind-blowing coverage devoted to topics like what the best kind of Spanx to wear under a designer gown might be. (Alternately, it gives A-listers and pretty people more time to just... not eat.)

Birthday years that end in either a zero or a five are the only ones that really matter. Even still, Oscar has remained tight-lipped about whether next year's gala festivities will include invitations for five, six, or eleventy-thousand Best Picture nominees.
