I'm typically not a big fan of sci-fi movies, but this past year has changed my mind on that a little bit. So many good sci-fi movies were released in 2009, and it makes me wonder if my tastes have changed. Sony has a new sci-fi flick on the way, and hopefully this one will surprise me like the others did.

Sony is planning on making a feature adaptation of "The Electric Church," a sci-fi novel by Jeff Somers. As of right now the film is called the AVERY CATES PROJECT, based off the name of the main character of the novel. The book is supposed to be very action-packed.

I hope this movie surprises me, and from all this SPIDER-MAN hubub, Sony is showing that they have guts. I think that is what it takes to make a good sci-fi movie these days - guts. DISTRICT 9 and STAR TREK were two of my favorite movies last year, and both were very gutsy. Hopefully, this one is good and achieves the same success.
