To follow up on the bold claims that Gary Oldman made at at Comic-Con this past weekend (he essentially said the film would start production next year), MTV asked screenwriter David S. Goyer on what he feels the status of a third BATMAN film is.
Here's what Goyer had to say:
"Right now, Chris is involved in filming INCEPTION. And when he finishes that, he will turn his studious gaze back to the Bat universe and we'll see."
Not much in the way of a compelling news story, but it's topical and people, I included, love to follow every step of the way with a film like BATMAN. As I hypothesized the other day, it is highly unlikely that the next BATMAN would start shooting so soon, as Christopher Nolan would be busy finishing INCEPTION. Not to mention the fact that Nolan is one of the few respectable directors left these days that does not feel the need to make a film just because. He takes his time. He's meticulous. He's thoughtful and careful with the film, its characters, their story, and the audience's response to the final product. Which all explains THE DARK KNIGHT.
For now, we at least have another Nolan original to look forward to (July 16th, 2010), this one starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Remember what happened last time we got a Nolan original after a BATMAN film? I do. It was a little film called THE PRESTIGE and it was magical, pun definitely intended!
