While some spend their time bemoaning the death of home video, some companies, like good Gordon and the Whale friend Severin Films, continue to rocket forward in a never ending quest to not only resurrect obscure titles but to put those titles in the homes of fans, new and old alike.

In a deal announced today, Severin Films will take over the production and marketing duties for Intervision Picture Corporation whose founder, VHS pioneer Larry Gold, Sr., sadly passed away in March at his home in Thailand. Supervising duties go to Evan Husney, Severin superstar and official badass, and the first title to fall under this new deal is the David A. Prior written/directed video slasher (the first of it's kind shot on tape), SLEDGEHAMMER (starring his brother Ted Prior, a former Playgirl centerfold) on May 10th. Read more about SLEDGEHAMMER and future Intervision releases after the break!

The SLEDGEHAMMER synopsis reads as your typical teen slasher but at the hands of Ted Prior (RAW NERVE, DEADLY PREY) and brother David A. Prior (KILLER WORKOUT), one is in for uniquely entertaining cheese of the highest order. Films wearing the Prior badge will never be considered 'good' when probed beneath a critical eye, but fans of genre cinema have long known there is something special to be found in duo's work. On May 10th, if you're in Austin, you can experience SLEDGEHAMMER on the big screen at the Alamo Drafthouse's Signature Series, Terror Tuesday. Those at home will be able to enjoy the new DVD release packed with these special features:

-Audio Commentary With Director David A. Prior
-Audio Commentary With Bleeding Skulls Creators Josepha A. Ziemba And Dan Budnik
-Hammertime: Featurette with Destroy All Movies!!! Author Zack Carlson
-SledgehammerLand: Featurette With Cinefamily Programmers Hadrian Belove And Tom Fitzgerald
-Interview With Director David A. Prior

Future Intervision releases include the 1989 Canuxploitation film THINGS and THE SECRET LIFE: JEFFREY DAHMER, a true-to-the-facts and haunting film based on the notorious serial killer. I don't know about you, but I find this to be an exciting time to be a genre film fan. As long as companies like Severin and Intervision are around, I will continue to stock my shelves with newly rediscovered obscurities!
